Library Card & Lending Policy
Our library is a tax-supported institution of Middlebury, Jefferson and York Townships. A patron who shows proof of residence in one of these townships will be issued a library card free of charge. Library cards are mailed to the patron. When a patron receives the card, he/she is eligible to check out materials from the library. A $1.00 fee is required to replace a lost card.
Residents outside the above townships can acquire a non-resident library card for a fee of $45.00 (as of July 1, 2014).
Lending Period and Renewal
All materials (except for videos, magazines and Playaway Views) may be checked out for for 3 weeks with up to 2 renewals as long as the item is not on reserve for another patron. Magazines and videos (including VHS, DVDs and Playaway Views) are loaned for a period of 1 week.
All materials may be renewed over the telephone or through your online account. To establish an online account, get a PIN at the Front Desk.
Materials will be held on reserve/hold for a patron for one week after notification.
Our library has a reciprocal lending policy with all the public libraries in the counties of Elkhart and LaGrange; with the Mishawaka-Penn-Harris Public Library system as well as any Indiana public library participating in the state reciprocal lending program.
