Quick Start Guide

for Library eBook Catalog

For use with iOS/Android devices, PC/MAC computers, and eReaders
Note for Kindle Fire and Kindle Fire HD--due to the proprietary relationship between Amazon and Kindle we cannot guarantee that you will successfully download eBooks from the library’s collection.

 

What do I need to read library eBooks?

1. Free eReader app (download app first BEFORE you download a book)
2. Current Library card & PIN (available at the front desk)
3. Internet connection
4. Email account

How do I start?

Tip: Print these instructions. It makes them easier to follow as you use them.
1. Download a free eReader App
The Blio app is for Blio titles on mobile devices and PCs. The Adobe Digital Editions app (aka Bluefire Reader on some devices) is for ePub & special e-reader PDF files for e-reader devices including – Sony Reader, Nook, Kobo and others e-reader devices. (Some eReaders like Sony and Nook have ePub already installed but most devices do not.) These apps require you to establish your free account through their websites using your email account. (Even if you have Adobe Reader on your device, you need to download Adobe Digital Edtions.)

- Go to the Middlebury Library homepage. Click on “eBooks” in right sidebar.
- This opens the Magic Wall (the library’s eBook page)
- Desktops & Laptops: click the "App Zone" tab at the top of the page and follow
directions.
- Mobile Devices (phones, tablets, eReaders): click "App Zone" at the bottom of the page and follow directions.

2. Check out an eBook (once you have downloaded an eReader App onto your device)
- Go to the Middlebury Library homepage. Click on “eBooks” in right sidebar.
- Browse our eBook collection and make your selection.
- BEFORE you click “check out”, BE SURE TO CLICK ON BLIO or ePUB , whichever app you downloaded onto your device. (Note on some devices “blue” designates a selection)
FOR ePUB:
- Once you click “check out” a login screen appears. Enter your library card number and PIN.
- Select “Login” and your book is automatically downloaded. (You may be asked to select a format first before book is downloaded)
FOR BLIO:
A Blio Login Screen appears. (Enter the email address and Blio Password you used to set up your Blio account when you downloaded the app). Click "login" to process your book selection.

3. Read your eBook (For some eReaders you must download the book onto your computer first and then sync your eReader to your computer. Follow the directions that came with your device.)
- Click on your downloaded eReader app. When the app opens, an icon for the book you have chosen should appear (or shows the book is loading).
- Click on the book icon (wait until the book is fully loaded) and start reading.
